Comments Thread For: Collazo on Loss To Amir Khan: "Mentally I Wasn't There"

BROOKLYN, NY - After a hard fought defeat against Amir Khan on "THE MOMENT: Mayweather vs. Maidana" undercard on May 3, former welterweight world champion Luis Collazo returned to his home borough of Brooklyn to rest and spend time with his family before returning to the ring at the end of the summer.

Collazo suffered a minor injury to his left hand during his fight against Khan. According to his doctor, the tendons in his left hand will take between four and six weeks to return back to normal.

This new type of excuse I'm seeing a lot of these days. Being physically 100% perfect but mentally 'not there', whatever that means.

Froch has said the same thing about the Groves fight. So has Alvarado about Provodnikov.

Whatever, fighters have to do what they can to avoid accepting the fact they were fairly beaten by the superior man.

There are ALWAYS excuses, no matter how small. How many times have you heard a guy say 'take nothing away from him, he was the better guy... TONIGHT', implying that if they fought again, he'd win. Boxers have so much pride, they just don't want to accept that the guy that gave them a beating is better than them, so they simply add 'tonight' onto the end of the sentence, and that makes them feel better about the loss.

No ****, you walked around the ring with your hands down and looked like a grandfather, maybe it was Khan who made you look like that, or maybe you just looked terrible

Oh yeah that's another good one which I don't mind so much because they are accepting they were at their best on the night but lost fairly and would need to improve on another night to get a win.

This 'not being there mentally' is a load of crap, like others have pointed it's just pride which I know they have to tell themselves but don't try and sell it to the fans and diminish your opponents achievement in public.

Truth is, Collazo was not there physically. Poor training and a damaged hand.

The Collazo that fought Mosley and got robbed by Hatton was not present for Khan. If you think that was the best Luis Collazo, you must be new to the sport.

That does not even make sense unless there was something crazy going on in his personal life. That was a huge opportunity for him, so a true pro should have been able to focus.

If something serious was going down with Collazo I will understand but until I hear otherwise that is a lame excuse especially when you consider his position.
