Mayweather beat Maidana the best way he knew comfortable, and Maidana used his skills, unconventional style and dirtiness (Don't deny this) to keep Mayweather more occupied defensively than we're used to. In terms of scoring Maidana did very little of that, not at all close, a tough but clear Mayweather win. There is no "Mayweather chose to do this or that", he did what he could. He'll likely go through a similar but easier process in a rematch as he has familiarized himself with Maidana and we'll more than likely get a more authoritative ref.
