Shawn Porter vs Juan Manuel Marquez

    poll incoming.

Can this young dog take out the old master? Marquez seems to do good against aggressors, but Porter is young fresh and just earned a title. Woud Marquez dare fight this young hungry champion for a 5th weight title if it were possible?

    Ask me after this weekend.

    80% JMM by KO.

    Is he still 80+ %?

    Can Alvarado answer this question?

Probably yes on all counts imo.

Porter would beat him up... This would be a young peaking fighter bullying a smaller older fighter..

Porter would get caught by some counters as he was coming in, but in the end I think his fresher legs earn him a close decision

The way Porter showed he could just explode and pounce just tells me he can even stop Marquez. Great aggression, if he starts fast and explosive early it would benefit him late, I think he could bully Marquez too.

I picked Shawn Porter. I feel he's to young, big, and strong for JMM at this point. Looking at JMM resume, other than beating a small (but great) fighter in Pacquiao he doesn't have a win at welterweight. He always gives Manny problems, but they say styles make fights and I'm not sure how he does against full fledged welterweights. He lost to Bradley who doesn't have the power of the average welterweight whatsoever and Bradley was able to stun him a few times. JMM doesn't need to fight any true welterweight not named Pacquiao... it's a BIG risk.

based on their last 2 performances (although not exactly fair) I'd pick Porter, but JMM could still be dangerous, we'll see with Alvarado

The Alvarado fight should give us a good indication of where he's at. But if Shawn Porter were to swarm Marquez the way he swarmed Paulie, he'd open himself up to vicious counters. Marquez hits hard as a welterweight and thrives against aggressive guys. It would depend on if Porter could walk through Marquez's counters to deliver his own shots.

I believe in the guy, so maybe, just maybe JMM could use the bullying and physicality against Porter but it does seem like a hell of a task to do that over 12rds - some will come down to how the ref calls the fight.

Even putting the infighting to the side; at distance, that lead left hook by Porter seems like it could an issue for sure..that is a shot Marquez has struggled to adjust to in his career and it would be coming from a much bigger guy. I'll wait to see how much damage he takes in this Alvarado fight
