Comments Thread For: Lucas Browne Draws National Praise For Historic Win

Lucas Browne has received an official letter of praise from the Australian National Boxing Federation for his historic Commonwealth title victory in England last month.

Browne, 35, halted Canada's Eric Martel Bahoeli in the fifth round to become the first fighter from down under to hold the heavyweight version of the crown since the legendary Peter Jackson back in 1892.

In the letter, ANBF National Secretary Frank Hadley commended Browne for the patience and determination he showed in pursuit of the title – a journey which started in Hong Kong and ended with not one but two trips to the UK.

"We know that you represent Australia with great pride and your success in becoming the Commonwealth champion brings enormous respect, not only to yourself, but also to Australia and Australian boxing," Mr Hadley added.

Well done Lucas. Love watching his interviews, most down to earth boxer around. Under no illusions as to his limitations. I hope he can stay fit and motivated and see how far he can get. As for drawing national praise, he's hardly even been acknowledged in the news that I've seen. Hope he keeps opening up like the end of his fight against Bahoeli.

Browne is a pretty cool guy. I think he'll get exposed when he comes up against a top class heavyweight like Pulev or Fury though.

Would not could not call Fury "top class" as yet. He still has to prove his worth to me.

He's rated the #3 HW on BoxRec behind Wlad & Pulev.
