What Are Your Thoughts on it Being "Hip" To like Floyd Mayweather?

He was kept on the backburner for years, was always "kind of" a fan and realllly like his talent but then he was stuck fighting Bruseles, Ndou, etc. then within a couple years was one of the most hated athletes on the planets.

Now, he is getting ovations at games, during his intros, during cameos. Anyone else a bit weirded by this. I believe he earned it definitely, but I feel funny about all this Mayweather love.

    It's not Hip.

I'm a fan because I appreciate true greatness.

It's definitely hip now. So many people have come up to me the past few years in love with this guy.

If you liked Mayweather in the past, you were a thug, you were trash, you were a newbie, etc.

Now if you like him you are a boxing savant

he is one of those love him or hate him guys. i bet half those people at games are booing, but all you hear is the overall ruckus. i dont think its about whats hip, its just what happens when an athlete is able to stay on top for a long time provided his sport isnt lame.

at the end of the day he is a rags to riches story, came from a very tough upbringing and literally fought his way to the top with his own two hands earning millions in the process. the mans work ethic is legendary, its inspiring and you have to respect it.

I see where OP is going with this. Ive noticed a lot of people are on the Floyd bandwagon as if they are truly part of the "Money Team".. They start talking like Floyd by calling everyone haters and incessantly bringing up PPV figures. They dont know much about Boxing, but they know Floyd's persona and want to be associated with a winner.

And those are the fake Floyd fans. Everyone knows the opposite of that is Junior Gong because he is most likely a Closet Floyd Fan.

Really? I see it quite often actually. I like Floyd but a lot of his fans didn't know who he was before the De La Hoya fight. They know the personality more than they do the fighter.
