Martinez and his trash talk

He's only been in two ppv fights which is when he seems more outspoken or it could simply be he's getting a lot more exposure than any other fights. The Chavez fight was personal with everything surrounding the WBC belt, and it seems like it became personal with Cotto and all his diva demands.Last edited by Dinamita 03; 05-13-2014, 05:26 PM.Comment

he just doesnt like cotto and chavez, for his other fights he is generally respectful.
i hope cotto makes him pay though, not for talking but for calling out much smaller guys when he hasnt taken care of business at 160 yet. people compare it to hagler and hopkins fighting smaller guys during their MW title reigns, but they had already cleaned out the division. no way they would be calling out smaller guys with someone like golovkin around at their own weight and so much unfinished business.Comment

Really think so? Bet 5 Billion? I don't really know how Miguel will approach this fight. He is definitely a true welterweight fighting a guy that might enter the ring over 170. Will he try to pursue Sergio and be physical? Will he elect to try to box with Sergio and try to out counter the counterpuncher? I'm not sure I know the answer. I'm not sure there is one.Last edited by Ganondorf; 05-13-2014, 05:40 PM.Comment

I think this is rooted in Sergio thinking he is better than Cotto. He despises Cotto's pride etc. I think in Sergio's mind, Cotto has no right to pride etc because after all, he is no Argentinean. This is deeper than Sergio's claims of Cotto being "aloof" toward him back in 2007. Come on man, that is some chick BS right there. Did he want Cotto to give him eye contact and flirt with him?
Sergio has an issue with Cotto and it is an issue he is not willing to admit to.Comment

Someone finally got in his ear and told him he needed to trash talk.
Seriously, back in 2008-2009 he wasn't getting anything. After he got the belts, he was calling guys out but was getting shaded by Cotto ("this is a business"), Chavez Jr ("fight doesn't make sense"), and many more. Pacquiao fought for Sergios 154 belt but wouldn't fight him. Chavez grabbed his 160 belt but wouldn't fight either.
Once he started talking some ****, he got some fights. If you keep winning fights and call a fighter who is ****ing you a *****, it's only so long before his fanbase starts to wonder why their guy hasn't fought the guy calling him out (if the guy is a legit fighter).Comment

What is it with this guy and his trash talk? I have not followed his career that much because of a lack of big and intriguing fights, but for Chavez jr. and now Cotto he's constantly mouthing off to the media. It doesn't come off very well for him and if he loses against Cotto he is going to look like an absolute clown after all the "I will retire him!" "He won't last many rounds!" talk.
Fights with Paul Williams, pavlik weren't big or interesting to youComment
