Comments Thread For: Callum Smith Describes Eubank Sr. Comments as “Daft."

Unbeaten British super-middleweight prospect, Callum Smith 10-0 (8) spoke to BoxingScene this week about Saturday night’s comments from Chris Eubank Sr. that the only man who could beat his son, Eubank Jr 15-0 (10), from 160 to 168 lbs would be Andre Ward.

After Eubank Jr had toyed and played with Robert Swierzbinski 13-3 (3), the outspoken middleweight contender then went on to stop his man in the seventh round of their eight round contest. It was a bout that saw Swierzbinski hit the deck seven times.

On a personal level I couldn't disagree more with the last statement. I rarely watch him and I've often found myself flicking through the channels mid way through his bouts and coming back to the card when his fight has finished. He doesn't engage me at all, and the contrived posturing only heightens my sense of apathy.

His fathers shadow looms large and he's not going to step out of it by trying to emulate his style. He's not a natural showman and he doesn't have the charisma of his father. Sr is a fascinating self made character like very few are.

It's all a bit stale carbon copy at the moment. Hopefully he'll grow into his own man.

      Completely agree with you mate.

Even more frustrating becuase he seems to have talent. Considering he's a late starter he has skills, but he carries himself like a complete bellend and seems seems way too ****y bearing in mind hes in the ring with some random eastern euro

It's not even like it seems to have any purpose. I'm not against posturing per se, it can be used to good affect to frustrate an opponent. Duran-Leonard II springs to mind. As a youngster I'd watch that fight and I'd want to punch Ray Leonard in the face! And I like the guy.

Even when it's been taken too far by the likes of Hamed and Roy Jones and it becomes belittling to their opponent, which I don't agree with, at least you can see the affect that it has on undermining confidence.

When Eubank Jr. does it, it's as if his mind floats off into a little aside and he thinks . . . "this is the bit where I do some posturing. The crowd will like that". It's all very David Brentish. Ill timed, ill advised, and a little bit cringe worthy. Even his opponents look a little bemused.
