Would y'all like to see refs handout more point deductions?

And yeah, excessive clinching and pushing off makes boxing almost unwatchable.
I'm okay with a few clinches here and there to catch a breather, and to stop the guys momentum, but clinching up every time your opponent comes towards you is pathetic.Comment

Excessive clinching should lead to more point deductions. Hugging when someone gets inside shouldn't be a defensive tactic. I honestly can not remember when was the last time someone lost points or even got a hard warning for excessive clinching.
Other than that I think most refs do a solid job. It's just like any other sport. Some days they're going to be strict about the rules. Other days they're going to let some things slide. As long as it isn't too bad I'm ok with that. It's up to the athletes to make adjustments.Comment

Boxing's populairty would be back in it's former glory. Guys like Khan , Floyd, and Wlad would be out of a job.
Clinching definately needs to be slowed down. The 3 names I mentioned above also hold their opponents heads down every chance possible , dirty boring fighters.
Killing boxing and claiming to be great all in one breath.
GGG , I see him clinch or get clinched about once or twice a fight.
Quality fighter right there.Last edited by Croyd; 05-12-2014, 07:05 PM.Comment

Your points are not the issue. The issue is when we fans have to watch refs give out multiple warnings for the same infraction without penalizing the fighter. This messes up the flow of the match. Instead of hugging for 36 minutes, maybe the point deductions will actually force the fighter to fight! Not sure most fans understand the differences between fouls and rough play.
Also how difficult it is to ref a highly competitive bout. Lets face it most fans have never seen a live show.
Clever fighters know how to manipulate certain ref's also get the ref out of position. A good ref will give a fighter the benefit of doubt at first but once a pattern develops they know how to deal with it.
Remember the view on tv is the best to view the event the ref is up close and can see into a fighters eyes but he's also blinded most of the time from the furthest arm away. If he's stepping around the aggressor he will put himself in blind spots throughout the night. It's not an easy job and to become good at it you need ALOT of experience. Ray.Comment

that obviously depends a lot from fight to fight, but in general i dont think they take away points often enough. whats more annoying is the few times they do take a point from a fighter they almost always take a point from the other guy for the smallest infraction just to even things out.
they are so afraid of being criticized for being biased they basically dont do their job at all. most of them that is, there are plenty of refs who do a great job too. tony weeks is one of them he just had an off night.Comment
