    Real Champions in Boxing

So, me and a friend were talking about this recently and we could only think of a handful of divisions where you can identify a "true" champion, the legitimate numero uno, where all others are titlists.

this is what we came up with:

heavyweight: obviously wlad, especially since vitali retired

light heavy: stevenson (kovalev is starting to stake a claim)

super middle: ward but its slipping with his inactivity, the winner of froch/groves can take over imo

middle: sergio, again slipping if martinez doesn't fight ggg or quillin in his next fight

    light welter: danny garcia

featherweight: this is a tough one but either gonzalez or vetyeka can claim to be top dogs, since these guys old a win over mares/john.

    super bantam: rigo obviously

super fly: dont follow the division a lot but hasnt narvaez been top dog for a while now? should he claim champion?

out of 17 divisions, there are only champions in 8, imo anyway, with at least 3 of them having legit contenders they have yet to face and/or lack of activity, that reduced it to 5....thats just terrible.

i guess at welter/lmw some would have floyd but floyd fought for a unification of titles at a weight in which he was champion but it was at a cw...never before done in boxing. i dont mind cws, armstrong used them, as did srl but every time while moving up, never in a division in which they were already champ. and at welter floyd has missed out fights with pacman and bradley, the two leading welters over the last 2 years or so...well in pacs case, even longer.

    on a happier note:
flyweight: what a division, gota have akira, roman, viloria all fight each other, please! but no true champ here sadly

How? You could argue the #2 and #3 are Bradley/Pac..... He hasn't fought them.

He's fought Guerrero, Ortiz, and Maidana.

I'd disagree with light heavyweight. That's a division that needs a few fights to happen before anyone deserves to be called the man. No one there has even fought the other best fighters, let alone beat them.

I'd also disagree with Danny Garcia because so many people believe he lost his last fight, myself included.

Alvarez and Lara are about to prove who the best is in their division. Big reason I'm so excited for that fight.

Pacquiao would be considered the best from 140-147 considering he doesn't necessarily have a division. Fight @ WW but is the size of a LWW

Exactly, beating Guerreo, Ortiz and Maidana doesn't make you the man. Also, I know the "lineage" as it's called is traced to Mosley but come on now LOL

How can you disagree that Stevenson is the man at LHW? He beat ... no destroyed Dawson for the number one championship, which Dawson had won off BHOP, who won it from Pascal, who won it from Dawson. Add to that Stevenson beat a former titlist in Cloud and the number one contender in Bellew, in fact he battered both those guys. Stevenson is number one.

And I can't even get started on the Gracia hate here, the guy won the tourney specifically started up to crown THE MAN at 140. He did so by beating the most dangerous puncher in the division. Yes there was the blip last time out but it was a damn close fight and officially he holds the win. it's as simple as that. No robbery there.
