Bermane Stiverne has claimed the vacant World Boxing Council heavyweight title, stopping Chris Arreola in the sixth round before a crowd of 3,992 at the University of Southern California's Galen Centre arena. The 35-year-old Stiverne knocked Arreola down twice in the sixth round before referee Jack Reiss stopped the bout at 2:02 of the round, giving Stiverne the victory in the first heavyweight championship bout on American soil since 2009.

I feel bad for Chris. I've always liked him. He's got a lot of heart, and, recently, has shown a real desire to become champion by willing himself to better condition.

I read some of Stiverne's comments after the fight. He seems like a smart fighter. You don't often hear a boxer explain himself and his plan as clearly as he did. Looks like everything worked out exactly as planned.

Wlad will be knocking. When was the last time we had an undisputed heavyweight champion of the world? I'd like to see it again.
