Not to mention that Top Rank has groomed him from the start and despite using his dad's name and legacy they have been supportive through all the weight/drug issues. So instead he will sit out for over a year, sounds like another ****** decision by Chavez, one of many in his career. Who on earth can Haymon get for him for that sort of money?? Getting beat by Stevenson at LHW doesn't seem all that smart.

I think Chavez realized that him taking an ass whooping wouldn't be beneficial for his career.

What is really amazing is that some people find a way to hate on Bob Arum in this situation.

It's always Arum's fault on NSB.

A one fight extension with that kind of money is a tremendously good deal.

          • Chavez could of signed a 1 fight extension, it couldn't of been that bad could it? He would of been good financially..

Andre Ward should stop suing his promoter so he can actually fight. Dude is acting like he's taking his case to the Supreme Court. No one is doing business with Ward not even his own promoter at the moment. People need to stop talking about Ward until he settles his legal problems. Ward himself says he wants to get back in the ring but at tue same time is prepared to sit out as long as it takes.

You can't say he proved it based on one fight...and Junior's done a lot of damage to his reputation since that fight.

Drug suspension, weight problems including the weight fiasco with the first Vera fight and then the poor showing in the ring against Vera, etc., etc.

So people can talk about the Martinez numbers...but there's the reality is, two years ago, Junior could draw 14,000 to the Alamodome against Rubio...and this year, he only did half that number for the Vera rematch (and the first Vera rematch only drew like 4,000...you could see all the empty seats during the fight, and Lampley mentioned it during the fight).

Junior's name ain't what it used to be.

He can obviously rebuild it, but we'll see how he does...he's not off to a great start.

                • Do people think Chavez is going to make more money with GBP/Haymon?

Bear in mind, he's contracted to TR until October 2015.

I don't think he really wanted the Golovkin fight, or at least his team didn't.

                  • As much as I hate Arum, its hard to defend Chavez in this situation. Sounds like he was being offer a more than fair deal.

So Jr coulda made £12 - $17 mil in 2 fights (having only made $3 mil fighting a bigger star than Golovkin), and you think he should instead sit on his ass for a year and a half cos it'll make him more money? Why not take the guaranteed $12 mil and then go to Haymon?

Unless Haymon has told him the $47 mil deal only happens if he doesn't take the GGG fight, it just doesn't make sense. Jr is being offered double his best ever purse (Maravilla) guaranteed in two successive fights - one of them a TBA - despite a loss and a lacklustre performance (and probable gift) against a journeyman - and that's a slave contract?

I mentioned this the other day before seeing any figures and co-incidentally pulled out $2.5 mil as about the right purse without an extension - based on the $3mil he got against Maravilla. I can't see what the problem with that is, but the promised $12 - 17 mil for just 2 fights sounds to me like a great deal given Jrs actual ability.

What I do find a bit fishy is the huge disparity, between the the 1 and 2 fight deals - I can understand Bob wanting to offer more with the extension, but it's clear he coulda pulled out more than $2.5 mil for the single fight if he'd chosen.
