To me it does not make any sense for Arum wanting to keep him in the first place. Jr. is just not a fighter any promoter would want to depend on with any extended contact. I cannot believe Arum would offer him so much for re-signing. That has me confused really. Jr. is the boxing equiv to a junk bond. LOL

Everyone does make mistakes so who knows, plus there is the added benefit of hurting your biggest rival and if Haymon thinks they are close to the winning moves he could make financial sacrifices short run for longer term profit.

Still I don't see how that deal would work or how they would ever make money, unless like you say it was a seven year deal or something like that.

Yeah if anything Chavez is a short term investment. I mean look on how much he has screwed up already. He would be any promoters nightmare. If I was Arum, I would wave goodbye to jr now and say good luck. Arum and Chavez Jr himself must think Mexican fans are ******. Trust me Mexicans are in the know, and many of them already know that jr is very limited. The fans Canelo gained, were the ones that jr lost.

The 2.1 Million was Golovkins Flat Purse. Arums 2.1 million offer with PPV upside to Jr. without an extension was very fair. Take a look at Arums's situation here. How much money would you want to risk, if you had 0 insurance and nothing to bank on after the fight?

Each fighter a promoter has signed is an investment. If Bob does not have controlling interest in either fighter, he will work it so there is less risk for him, which is understandable, because he will not recoup any of that potential lost money in the future with that fighter.

You are joking right? You don't hear about it, but they ALL do it if the fighter is profitable. Google "boxer extends contract" to see for yourself. Most of them are silent and kept off the news, but they all do it. Look below for a couple examples.

"This is a winning combination and we're very happy to extend Abner's contract with the Golden Boy team."

"Schaefer told Boxing Scene. ... "We did extend our contract with Amir, finalising a new multi-fight deal which means ..."
