Didn't say glorify him. But he had one great night where he lived up to his potential and deserves credit for it. His failures after his victory should have no bearing on what he accomplished. That night he worked, hard, took boxing seriously, was extra motivated from the loss of his mother and was king of the world. Why go through the extra effort to take away the one crowning achievement in his boxing career?Should people really be glorifying a man who mentally quit the sport after a performance of a lifetime to blatantly throw his next fight, losing his titles before the Sega Game based on him was even launched, to go on and weigh hundreds of pounds and almost die from diabetic complications, to lose all of his money and then set up a Condom company to make a living nowadays?Comment

He disgraced his late mother and the entire sport by doing what he did after winning the undisputed title, and he never redeemed himself. And I didn't take away his achievement, I merely acknowledge it. But to glorify him and say things like "he deserves all the respect in the world" for that one thing like some are saying? No, I don't cherry pick a man's legacy like that.Didn't say glorify him. But he had one great night where he lived up to his potential and deserves credit for it. Very good analysis, I would agree with every point on this list except maybe #2 Tyson being in good shape.
Tyson did have "Bulging muscles", but that does not necessarily equate to being in shape, ******* does not tend to give you a beer belly, and that was Tysons vice of choice in the period. Big muscles or not his stamina was very poor, he threw one punch at a time, and looked terrible compared to his earlier fights. he also looked winded from the 2nd round on, so I'm going to still say he was not in very good shape for the fight.Comment

Good post by the OP but at the same time, I have never heard of anyone discrediting buster, though I do know some new fans who think they can get away with skipping history don't know about this fight.Comment

Thank you! I was just going to say the same thing. Tyson was only like 23 or 24 at the time of the fight, he could do all type of crazy **** to his body, and still look physically fit. Besides that, being physically fit doesn't men you are "boxing fit" and ready to grind out 12 rounds.Very good analysis, I would agree with every point on this list except maybe #2 Tyson being in good shape.

douglass kinda reminded me of bowe in a way in that he had lots of talent but was just too lazy and non comitted to take advantage of it. that jab was a thing of beauty when he was in shape and focusedBuster Douglas had 1 great night where he put it all together, he won a vast majority of his fights but he just never lived up to his potential except for that one night.
He deserves all the respect in the world for his shining moment, the rest of his career he was an under achiever.Comment
