    Cutman.

This may be a ****** question, but how does someone become a cutman? What is the process to becoming one? How much does a medical background help? Who are some good cutmen?

The best cutmen in the business are Rafael Garcia (Floyd Mayweather) and "Stitch" Jacob Duran (UFC/Boxing). If they're not the best they're among the best. I think Rafael Garcia was a hand specialist, Floyd hired him to fix his hands and somehow he became his cutman. He's got a medical background obviously. Jacob Duran was a trainer and then at some point he became a cutman. So there's different ways. I saw one of his interviews, he doesn't have a PHD or anything, he said all he's got is a highschool diploma.

You need to be mentored by a pro to learn the art correctly.
Nose bleeding, lacerations and swellings are the responsibility of the cutman.
In most states you need a license to be a second in the corner but you need no certificate of training to do so.
However you will need access to medical supplies such as epinephrine, adrenalin (100 and or 1,000) also avitene. The use of an "endswell" object for swelling control along with separate sponges and liquid for rinses and drinking.

Try to find any info from Eddie Aliano, Ralph Citro wrote "So You Wanna be a Cutman"! Read it! Angelo Dundee, Jacob Duran are also well known seconds.

Find the right people and learn, it will take you time and patience to be trusted.
I learned from Ralph Citro and Eddie Aliano and worked for matchmaker Vito Tallerita so I got a lot of mentoring from the best in the business plus a lot of work from a very busy matchmaker. It takes time to develop the skills to be fast and efficient and to attain access to the materials needed.
