Comments Thread For: Juanma vs. Vargas Added To Canelo-Lara PPV Event

Juan Manuel 'Juanma' Lopez picked the perfect time to resurrect his career. A bailout knockout of Daniel Ponce de Leon this past March helped the former two-time titlist land a 130 lb. title elimination bout versus unbeaten Francisco Vargas, which will take place July 12 in Las Vegas.

The fight will serve as the chief support to the evening's headliner, in which Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez faces Erislandy Lara live on Showtime Pay-Per-View.

"“It’s official, Juanma Lopez will fight against Francisco Vargas," confirmed Peter Rivera, Vice President of Puerto Rico Best Boxing Promotions, who represents Lopez. "This is a fight in which the winner must have a shot at the WBO world title at 130 pounds. It's another battle between Puerto Rico and Mexico and between two former Olympians (Lopez in 2004 and Vargas in 2008)." [Click Here To Read More]

So they're going to PR for Juanma, who I understand, half of the island doesnt even like. But they won't go to Miami.

They have essentially gone for every major Latino boxing group with this PPV. Sounds smart to me.

Great fight! Vargas looked real good beating Jerry Belmontes and Abner Cotto. I didn't think much of the Belmontes win till i saw his fight vs Figueroa (which i thought Belmontes won), Vargas won every single round against Jerry B.

Would have preferred Danny Garcia on the undercard, if they were going to put a PR fighter on there. They need to have a good undercard to sell this fight as too many competing PPV's are on already.
So far this vargas/Lopez just aint cutting it.

Miami, and Florida fans in general don't show up to events.

You never know, maybe JuanMa was drained at 126, he's even big for 130. He says he feels a lot more powerful at the higher weight. All it takes is one shot.

Garcia will vacate & move to 135. More competition.
