You know, people like to think that guys like Roy Jones lost because he relied too much on reflexes and never was really a technical fighter (really? One of the greatest amateurs of all time didn't have the basics down?). They don't realize that is the case with every fighter. Once the athletic ability goes, you will surely go behind it.
Only thing is Maidana does not have Tarver pedigree, tarver was a big skillful lefty - dangerous with minimal wear and tear on his body - maidana is the complete opposite , and didnt floyd use his legs in his last fight against Cenelo?? Thinking too much, didnt floyd make thw crucial adjustment around the 5th or 6th that changed the complexion of the fight? In Jones / Tarver 1 what adjustments did Roy make ? He just grinded out the victory - no adjustments - see slippage equates to not being able to adjust to your opponent we all slow down, but can you adjust to YOUR new tempo and still win? Floyd and benard still can, so props ti them

Had to order the fight because a bunch of people came over. I watched the first round and headed straight to the bar in my house. Seconds later, it was over. I felt like my strong prediction that Roy would get KTFO somehow influenced what actually happened. Never picked against him again...thanks a lot, Roy

    • Props to Floyd on this fight. I think he made a great fight and stayed in front of Chino when he could have been on his bike. I tend to agree with Floyd that he will just do his thing IF there is a rematch. I still suspect that Maidana was a bit tougher than Floyd expected. Chino was impressive in this fight too. I didn't think he won, but I can't recall a more entertaining Floyd fight in several years. Great job to both warriors!

I have been wandering why Mayweather does not throw that lethal check hook anymore myself. And I must admit that he had fooled me that a lot of his physical ability is not there. I saw it open a lot with Maidana, and I was wondering why he wasn't throwing it. He really must not be able to throw it anymore. I say give Maidana a rematch, and call it a day. Unless he can work out an agreement to fight pac in the geritol classic.

The Hatton fight sorta threw me off (he still had great legs and was lightening quick) but against Marquez, I couldn't help but notice how flat-footed he was and how much slower his lead left hook looked (just comparing the KD in round 2 to what he was doing to Corrales, for instance). When Mosley caught him standing straight up with the right...forget it. And that's around the time Floyd Sr. said his reflexes were slowing. Floyd is borderline done and I'm not sure if people see it. But they will in one or two more fights, I guarantee it.
anyone who has been watching floyd for the last 20 years can see that its starting to happen, you almost get the feeling that the gatti fight was the last time we saw the power punching, combination throwing prodigy from lightweight. because post de la hoya, he became a moving, pot shotting one punch mover, especially in the baldomir fight. there are times hes fought in the pocket but its definately not the same. hes playing it off like he wanted to do this on purpose but thats bull****, he doesnt have a choice.

As for the bolded - Let's be real : Mayweather fans started that dumb **** when Marquez knocked Pacquiao out. Somehow, that was twisted into a victory for them.

            Mental illness is a b*tch.
actually i think everyone has been pretty civil out here, except for a couple of posters who have resorted to childish name-calling.

Yeah, Floyd full with bull. Hes just saying what people want to hear and then go another direction. Fundamental for manipulation of dumb people.

              • Damn right! the next fight would be a KO win for Maidana but I doubt Floyd will put himself again in that same situation. Floyd lost that close fight, those two judges were smoking something...but it was a great fight!

                • It's shocking people think Maidana won with all the rough house tatics. Minus that and you can see he clearly fought a poor accurate fight. Swinging for the fences.

The more you watch the fight the better Floyd looks actually. Though he was still very poor in some points.

good for you to bring some balance in this board. fans on both sides, including the decent ones, can't hide their biases when it comes to floyd/pac topics. they condemn the ******ity and hypocrisy on the other side but would turn a blind eye when it comes to their side of the fence.
