Pacquiao and Mayweather are so far behind the likes of Ali and SRR that outside of something amazing like moving up and winning a HW title it's just not possible for them to be GOAT.Comment

I'm not sure if there's anything either can do right now to be the best ever. It's easier for Pacquiao to be in contention though because he already has the scalp of the 3 best guys to fight below lightweight in JMM, Barrera and Morales and not just iwns but in some cases, absolutely dominant wins. Then there are names like Bradley, Cotto, Hatton and Oscar, again, all dominant wins and many pounds above what we thought would be his best weight.
For Mayweather it's tougher because there are so many "what ifs" in his career and I can't think of a single defining win or a win where he looked physically dominant against a prime, great champion.
This is what I'd like to see from Mayweather:
1. Martinez for the MW crown
2. Come back down to 147 and take on Pacman
3. Defend his title at LMW at the correct 154lb limit against a legitimate challenger
4. Possibly a defence of the MW crown against GGG
After all that and especially if he makes it look easy against some of those guys, then he'd have an argument for an absolute top 20, possibly top 10 great.
For Pacquiao:
1. Win a title at 154 against the winner of Canelo/Lara
2. Beat Mayweather
3. Beat any of the young dogs in Thurman/Porter/Danny Garcia
Retirement, that's enough for Pac to be top 15, taking into account his previous accomplishments, I already think of him as a top 20 or top 25 ATG. Winning the MW crown off Martinez/GGG makes him a sure fire top 10.Comment

Ehh, I'd have a hard time placing Floyd number one even if he fought the JMW, middleweight and supemiddle top 5!!
Barring challenging Wladimir Klitschko it's hard to rank Mayweather near the top 10 ATG let alone "TBE"Comment

Couldn't agree more. Floyds whole approach to boxing and ethos just isn't conducive to being no1 ATG. The carefully picking of opponents, fighting so little, and not taking risks with CWs and fighting the Maidanas of this world, whilst his peers, guys he beat like Cotto are fighting the Sergios of this world.
Floyd would have to show us his potential and Floyd doesn't seem to want to as it may risk in being defeated.
Whatever anyone says about Pac on the other hand, he is more of a candidate as he has done things no one has done before, and that puts you in the equation.Comment

The absolute minimum for either to be even in consideration for ATG #1 is to beat the other AND clean out the MW division (Sergio, GGG, Quillin). But even that probably wouldn't be enough, and I don't know what more either could realistically do.Comment
