"Ireland's" John Duddy Fights For First Pro Title

Fresh off of his first 10-round fight, "Ireland's" John Duddy (15-0, 13 KOs) battles for his first pro title belt March 16 headlining "The Shamrock Express," promoted by Irish Ropes, against veteran "Showtime" Shelby Pudwill (21-2-1, 9 KOs) in a 10-round bout for the vacant WBC Intercontinental Americas middleweight championship at The Theater in Madison Square Garden.

I need to see this guy fight, because if he is as good as people say he is he must be a promoters dream, what with the Irish contingent in New York and Boston.

I don't think Duddy's where he needs to be at yet, but he has showed promise. He seems to have a lot of personality, and as an Irish descendant, I would love to see him do big things. He needs to get 5 or 6 fights under his belt against some good fighters, and who knows? He could turn into a helluva fighter. I wish him well.

i dont know that duddy will ever evolve into a championship level fighter but he will always be an exciting fighter. he reminds me of mickey ward the way he stalks opponents and hits to the body. hes very agressive and i dont see a whole lot of guys that will be able to really back him off. as with all untested fighters we have yet to see if his power is top shelf or if he can take a good shot on the chin.

I've seen a couple of his fights on ESPN and the guy has a lot of potentials. He is a busy forward figter which makes him a very exciting fighter to watch.

But 15-0 and he is already fighting for a belt? That might be too early. As somebody has mentioned above, he probably needs to earn somemore rounds against named and seasoned fighters.

There will never be any substitute for experience.

It's not like it's a real belt. WBC Intercontinental Americas belt? It's a belt designed to give the WBC a bigger cut of the purse and means nothing in the grand scheme of where a boxer is in his career.

yeah, he needs to be fighting for the NABF or the Asian Pan-Pacific before he becomes a big deal
