Why is Oscar De La Hoya so popular

I am new to boxing and I have seen Oscar fight once. He fought against Vargas and it was a spectacular performance. He just boxed him good. But I still don't understand how people can be so positive toward his boxing career. They say things like "Oscar De La Hoya carried this sport" and different stuff like that. The reason I have speculation, is because according to his resume, quite a few big name boxers seems to have beat him.

Although Oscar has beat Strum, Vargas, Gatti, and Julio Cesar Chavez most of these are boxers that just don't have that strong of a hold on being the greatest in the boxing world like Mosley, Trinidad, and Hopkins. I think Oscar is a good boxer and has accomplished a lot, but I just think he is way overrated. Please discuss your opinions.

lol, so we agree he is a stud what do you think of him as a boxer besides the fact you think he faught an over the hill jcc. dont know if many people know this but by his 3rd pro fight he was already calling chavez out

No doubt about it, he's hot.

Oscar had a good career, but he didn't beat a prime Chavez, still I'm not saying that he couldn't beat a prime Chavez, no one knows for sure. I still think he would've given a prime Chavez some trouble. But his win came over the hill Chavez & that's the #1 reason that Oscar turn into major superstar.
