Comments Thread For: Carlos Molina Battles a Case of Mistaken Identity

LAS VEGAS --- Super-lightweight Carlos Molina of Norwalk used to have a laugh when people would mistake him for IBF junior-middleweight world champion Carlos Molina of Chicago, Ill.

"Even some of my family members, when he would be fighting, they would say, 'Hey, good luck on your fight,' (and I'm like), 'It's not me,'" said Molina, who faces former world champion Adrien Broner on the Floyd Mayweather-Marcos Maidana undercard on Saturday at the MGM Grand on Showtime PPV.

Maybe because he is a LW prospect who has never even beaten a top 10 fighter in his division?

The fact that this bout is at 140 makes it more egregious that Lampley would mistake him for the other one. Didn't Jim stop himself to ask how a 154 pound fighter suddenly dropped down two weight classes to fight at junior welter?

You would expect that kind of lazy thinking from a casual but not from a professional whose work revolves around the sport.

At that time Mayweather and future two-division titleholder also by the name of Jesus Chavez were vying for supremacy in the same division.
I disagree. Molina has clearly been cherrypicked because he is short, easy to hit, has average speed and does not carry alot of power at 140. Watch the Khan fight the guy was hitting Khan flush with left hooks and could not even stagger or hurt him and made Khan look like a granite chinned fighter in that fight. Khan hit Molina so many times he fractured both of his hands in the fight.

Look at this photo of Khan's hands after the Molina fight - http://www1.skysports.com/boxing/new...-carlos-molina

It was a strategy to make fans not carefull think/believe that BRONER was fighting a 154 world champion after a brutal beating from MAIDANA at 147;that would have been a great bold move but obviously it's not the real story;he is fighting a superlightweight bum not fighting since DECEMBER 2012(LOSS) and NOT EVEN RANKED...WOW BRONER,WOW
