How do people who think the past was better reconcile mob influence?

This isn't a debate on whether or not you feel the older guys were tougher and in a better era. It's a question for those people who always run around saying the good old days of boxing were much better than today.

How do you reconcile the FACT that for all that time boxing was run by the mob? That they could influence just about anything in the sport and pretty openly did? That numerous champions were directly affiliated and supported by the mob? If we're going to talk about boxers today being sheltered why do you guys ignore the repeated and constant claims of fight fixing in the old days, and the endless stream of news articles from pre-1960 claiming boxing is dead because of mob influence and fight fixing?

Do you just deny it ever happened?

I think from 1960 to 2000 were the best years for boxing today we have Cherry Pic fights People like Haymon having mis match fights Champs fighting guys who are wash up, you have promoters not allowing the best fights due to Cold wars now explain how is this good for boxing or the fans than you have 1 certain boxer wanting to charge 70 dollars for a PPV fight yea right just because he thinks he entitled to 40 million. Won't get none of my money

I know you want to make this a bash Floyd thread...but ummm you do know Manny ppv's cost the exact same as Floyds right?? hell if i recall all ppv's are 60-70 bucks

Truth of the matter is there are only a handful of posters on here who truly know the history of this sport and actually follow more then a couple of fighters..so yes you are making a broad statement when making assumptions like this...There was and always will be fighters who take dives or throw fights for money..and there are certain fighters who big money men have an interest in and it all usually comes to the light...That is with any sport to be honest..you have point shaving,paid off refs and players trying to control the point spread...Sports is a HUGE BUSINESS!!! people ignore that word BUSINESS!!!! There are several people behind the scenes that invest large sums of money and want a huge return...
