Rodney Jones has been a pro since 1991, and hasn't lost since dropping a majority decision to unbeaten former WBO champion Harry Simon way back on September 23, 2000. Simon, incidentally, won his title with a majority decision over Winky Wright. Jones recalls, "At that time, he (Simon) beat Winky Wright by being busy and aggressive. Going into that fight, I thought I should be able to outbox him, but he was very cautious in our fight. Against Winky he was aggressive, and I expected the same when he fought me. I should have been more aggressive, rather that wait for him."
He was considered to be the next champ, and it was my first ten round fight. I was pretty much on a roll. I was hot and he was hot, and we agreed to fight. I boxed him when I had to, and fought him when I had to. I won that fight handily." Indeed, Jones defeated Antonio Margarito by the scores of 99-91, 99-92, and 98-92.
