Yeah, the boxing politics put him in a position to not fight for the IBF strap, thus not picking it up in his win against Lamont. Had he not been in that position due to boxing politics, he would have won his first world title, whether it's his fault or not is not relevant, at all.

Truth of the matter is he could have got the IBF title and vacated it; they was going to make the winner of Lucas vs Peterson against Danny Garcia regardless. If lamont had won he was getting Danny which was the entire reason he was there.

It wasn't set in stone, if you remember, after Matthysse won, Danny all of a sudden wanted more money for the fight, something he wouldn't have asked for if Pederson would've won - which delayed the signing and fulled the ducking claims.
