Matthysse Dominated That Fight and I think Improved As A Boxer In The Process

This was an excellent fight first and foremost. I think both fighters showed great heart and resiliency.

Lucas was the better fighter as expected going into the fight but he was troubled by Molina's power and length.

I have no problem with the second Molina knockdown. Lucas turned his head at the last minute trying to roll the punch. It wasn't a shot aimed at the back of the head. Plus lucas' first knockdown was a push so they're even anyway.

Lucas' stamina was excellent and he fought with urgency following the second knockdown and pressured Molina tirelessly. After the second knockdown, Lucas found his way close inside and was able to smother Molina's work while getting off his own.

I would also mention Molina's cut behind the ear. I think it played a big factor in the fight. He lost a lot of blood and it seemed to weaken him some. This is not to say Lucas' punches weren't hurting him as well but I think the blood loss contributed as well.

All in all, I was impressed by Lucas. He showed me that he could win a war/battle of wills. He showed that he doesn't panic and has great stamina. His jab was very efficient and a great weapon to initiate his offense. His power was legit as always. He can overcome adversity.

I was disappointed in the two knockdowns. I think now he knows he can't walk through anything. This fight was a great learning experience for him.

Thought the same. More patient, jabbed, stepped back instead of always swinging for fences. In prefight segment he said he learned more from loss and I think he did. Got up and persevered. Fun fight.

Mattysse most definitely did not dominate the 1st half of the fight. So this "Mattysse dominated the fight", is a damn lie.

Anyone saying that the 5th round knockdown of Lucas was BS should take a look at the back of Molina's head.
In the 2nd (or was it the 5th) round at about the exact same time Lucas got knocked down, John Molina had a gash appear on the back of his head near his ear, rabbit punch?
As the fight goes on, a 2nd and 3rd cut appear on the back of Molina's head.
          More rabbit punches?
The 5th round knockdown of Lucas , he was moving towards Molina and got caught with a right hook, unintentional hit to the back of the head. It wasn't like they were clinched and Molina was being dirty.

Lucas won that fight, he didn't dominate the whole fight though.

Other than round 2 and 5 , I also had Molina winning the 3rd and 7th round. The first round was close but I gave it to Lucas for putting out more work.
So going into the 8th round I had Molina up by 3 points, 67-64.

Molina got two wounds at the head (as I' noticed): the first was at the back of the head (with blood pouring on his back); the second above the left ear...

Lucas didn't dominate the fight, but he eventually demolished Molina.

The kd in the 5th was legit. Can't argue that. Molina didn't throw to that spot on purpose. Mattysse leaned that way.

The cut was from when he head butted Matthysse.

He didn't improve as a boxer. He just showed that he CAN box. He's always been able to do that.

I can't say for a fact that there was a 3rd cut. If you watch the later rounds you see Molina's corner put a vaseline glob on the top of his head near the other gash. This may have just been sloppy work or they may have clotted up the 3rd cut. There was so much blood it was hard to tell. The vaseline glob is what makes me think there were 2 cuts on the head and 1 behind the ear.
