He tried to, but Matts kept closing the distance and Molina is a ****er at heart. Molina's problem was the fact that he didn't throw enough.

I was actually more surprised by his lack of chin everyone claimed he had this granite chin but everytime he got touched clean even grazed he got hurt.

Matts learned quick that he had to respect Molina's power, though I don't think he was ever hurt. He definitely got stunned a couple times, with round 1 being the most notable example. It could also be due to the fact that he was still cold. This is the first true puncher Matts has fought, and it could've turned into a disaster.
