Efrain Esquivias returns to the ring for the first time since picking up the biggest win of his career, a 9th round stoppage of Rafael Marquez last September. The featherweight gatekeeper faces Ruben Tamayo in a scheduled eight-round affair Friday evening at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario, California.
Esquivias (17-2-1, 10KO) was winless in his three bouts, with bad luck playing a role. The Californian was competive in a decision loss to former 122 lb. titlist Rico Ramos in June '12, but outclassed by then-unbeaten contender Jhonathan Romero three months later in their title eliminator.
The win over Marquez, which aired live on Showtime, helped revive his career, but couldn't manage to properly cash in on the opportunity. As such, he takes a stay busy fight while scouting bigger opportunities to come.
Tamayo (24-4-4, 17KO) always comes to fight, even if not always coming out on top. The Mexican southpaw is 3-2-2 in his last seven contests. [Click Here To Read More]
