Comments Thread For: Big plans for Kiko Martinez after TKO win over Hasegawa

Kiko Martinez (31-4, 23KOs) continued his impressive streak of fights with a TKO win over Hozumi Hasegawa on Wednesday in Japan.

The win was Martinez's fourth straight stoppage victory and second consecutive defense of the IBF super bantamweight belt he won in shocking fashion against Jhonatan Romero. In fact, he's won all his fights by stoppage since losing to Carl Frampton in Feb. 2013.

I would not mind seeing Martinez vs Scott Quigg IBF/WBA unification fight, both are not busy at the minute so why not? It would be a cracking fight at the Phones 4u Manchester arena. Then we can get a real gauge if Scott Quigg does better or worse than Carl Frampton in a common foe at world level.

Scott Quigg is the fight to make for him.

If not that then maybe he can fight Santa Cruz on the Canelo-Lara undercard, if it's not too quick of a turn around time.

Rigondeaux vs Martinez 7/19 in Macau. I want to see that fight. Kiko won't sit there like Agbeko, he'll come to fight

The cold war between HBO and Showtime may prevent that from happening. Kiko is working with Sergio Martinez, who is contractually tied to HBO. Quigg would be an excellent option. They both have a good relationship and there should be no obstacles. If Chris Avalos defeats Ishimoto he will become the mandatory challenger.

We could only be so lucky . . . I don't see that fight happening without a lot of hustle and bustle because Top Rank doesn't support Rigo and is unlikely to pay Kiko for the peril Rigo would present. Wish HBO had some desire to finance it though because it would be a significant fight in the bantamweight division and there is time enough to do it.

C'mon Kiko... let's step up and ask for the best. Quigg, Frampton, Santa Cruz all very good fighters. But let's not forget who rules this division.

I guess having a world title does make you fight better.
