Comments Thread For: Schaefer: Porter Has No Problem Fighting Kell Brook

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer advised BoxingScene.com that IBF welterweight champion Shawn Porter (25-0-1, 14KOs) would have no problem facing mandatory challenger Kell Brook (33-0, 22KOs) - or any other opponent.

The IBF has ordered Porter to defend his title against Brook. The fight has to take place by July 19th.

If Canelo vs. Lara will be PPV, this should be the undercard fight.

seems 2 m ibf is backing 1 of their leading young stars in a corner as 4 the date...less than 3 months...he needs a rest from training 4 a few weeks, not the non fight Malagnaggi gave him, then back 2 camp...a 30 day extension to June 19 seems reasonable...

The Brook fight was mandated by the IBF after he beat Alexander. Team Porter chose to take a voluntary in between.

So it wasn't mandated, if he was allowed a voluntary

Yes it was. He had a maximum of 120 days after Alexander to beat Kell Brook.

They granted an extension in agreement that the winner would fight Kell Brook before June/July or whatever.

He always had to face Brook in the time specified. He was allowed to take a voluntary if he wanted to. So it's not the IBF's fault if he has less time to recover/prepare.

90 days? well lets see how this plans out for both, it might work against Porter or it might work in his favour. Someone said something about the Canelo-Lara undercard and to be honest this fight would be perfect for it, just hope no one gets injured before the fight, its a fight to look forward to.
