We went to the scorecards knowing that Bernard Hopkins had out-boxed Beibut Shumenov en route to a clear victory, unifying their two world titles at light heavyweight. And then we heard Jimmy Lennon Jr. announce that there was a split decision.

Fortunately, the decision still went to the right man, to Hopkins, who two of the judges had winning 116-111, eight rounds to four with an additional point taken from Shumenov for the knockdown he suffered in the 11th round.

All three scorecards were terrible. After the 3rd, of which Shumenov maybe won 2 rounds, there was only 1 round he could have won. We're talking 3 rounds if you're generous.

3 Rounds is very generous and that's the maximum you could give him.

First two and there was one more than was kind of close.

I had money on Shumenov and thought he won maybe 3 rounds if I was being generous it could have been less as all those were close round where very little happened.

That guy scorecard was terrible 114 to 113 more like 118 to 109. That guy should be investigated and never be able to judge a championship fight again.

Padilla is generally OK... But he seems he wanted to pose in someone who doesn't give a shit as he's judging "a big star"... Hence the excesses...

I had a feeling the judges would give Shumenov round 10. He missed so much that round but he was so close to landing lol. I didn't score the fight but Shumenov wasn't winning any rounds imo. The first few rounds were close but that's it. Hopkins punches landed very cleanly. His defense was excellent and he controlled the pace. He dominated every aspect of the scoring criteria.

But I'll tell you Shumenov almost hit him a few times that has to count for something.

Padilla has been on the wrong end of five or six SDs as a judge, so it shouldn't be too big of a surprise
