its cause casuals dont want to watch someone they can beat up.
Why do the Flyweights get no respect?

I personally don't watch any fighters below 140 lbs. I just have no interest in watching smaller guys battle it out and that includes MMA too. It just never appealed to me to watch smaller guys.Comment

Haha yeah the answer is pretty obvious but people will pull that "you're no true fan!" card
biological reality; Very few people want to watch 5 ft tall anorexic guys wail on each other, it just feels wrong.
politically correct version; They are underrated because of bob arum and too technical for untrained eyes blah blah blah...Comment

You can argue Minimum and Light Flyweights, but for Flyweights/Super Flyweights they look quite identical to SuperBantam/Featherweights, at least to casuals who matter more as they out number hard cores. I am pretty sure a casual fan would also think they can smack Santa Cruz around as well.Haha yeah the answer is pretty obvious but people will pull that "you're no true fan!" card

These guys are on average almost the same height as Featherweights. As for weight, you can't really tell the difference between a Flyweight and a Featherweight when they are fighting and again at least to the casual person.
Donaire vs Vic 1 was for the Flyweight title and it turned out to be quite good.
Maybe a star from an English speaking country to make it main stream like Hamed did it to the Featherweight division.Last edited by Box-Office; 04-22-2014, 03:58 AM.Comment

Your avatar is fantastic. Mos Def is the man.
To answer the thread, It's just hard for guys that small to get the exposure. Hardcore fans appreciate the little guys. Ricardo Lopez is one of my favorites. The only reason he didn't become a huge star is because he's little. It is what it is.Comment

they should make a reality show fitting these casual normal sized people against professional flyweights be it boxing or MMA and lets see how many of them can really beat them up....
In Asia specifically we usually watch flyweight fightsComment

Exactly!!!!
A grown man who is trained to throw punches can really end it in a split second in a street fight. Example: Vic and Donaire from their Flyweight days.
Also like I have said that there is no height difference between flyweights compared with featherweights who seem to get props. Even minimumweight guys are mostly 5 feet and above. The weight thing is rubbish as a casual won't be able to tell the difference. So, makes me wonder why no exposure.
Since, you do watch those guys who is your favorite? and why?Last edited by Box-Office; 04-22-2014, 06:14 AM.Comment

No media attention cause US/Brits don't fight there. I don't see a big difference(apart from a lot of more punches thrown) than the upper weights as far as boxing.
Read an article not too long ago from Ring and they were saying if Finito was at WW he would of been greater. WTF! Seriously?Comment

Yeah, so basically the conclusion I have arrived at is we need a star from or based out of an English speaking country like Hamed with Featherweight to bring it to mainstream. No media attention cause US/Brits don't fight there.
