And he said he promised his mom, I think it was his mom anyway, that he wouldn't fight past 40. Here he is, still winning titles.

I've huge respect for Hopkins career and his achievements over the years. It's remarkable that he's still fighting at all, and winning, but none of his recent opponents have really been top flight guys - solid, perhaps, but far from elite.
Ol' Bhops sure knows how to sell himself though.Comment

only reason he's successful @ thispoint in his career is he's cherry picking lower level/B guys if you will...I picture him, and losing to both, vs Michael Spinks and Carlos Monzon, @ the respective weights....Bob Foster would've ko'd Hopkins....Comment

[QUOTE=jvsnypes;14439283]thats why youre just a bitter hater..hopkins and mayweather would be doing the same in any era.Maybe the reason he has been able to fight for so long is because the division might be really weak right? Media makes you good.[/QUOT
This whole era is weak. That's why a 49 year old fighter is champion. That's why you have a defensive fighter that's 45-0. That's why your heavyweight champion is Klitschko.Comment

Take what Hopkins said in context rather than just going off the title, i.e read the article. Hopkins said No one is doing what he's doing at his age and winning and it's not like he's just fighting some random bums, he's fighting contenders and title holders. That statement is 100% accurate. Name a 49 year old still fighting and beating contenders? Can't do it.
His goal is to unify the titles so that means he had to beat Cloud, he has to beat Shumenov in order to do that. Not sure how that's difficult to understand. Then add the cold war into the mix and understand Hopkins challenged Stevenson which HBO rejected. If Hopkins wins we all know a Stevenson fight is going to happen.Last edited by ИATAS; 04-18-2014, 09:17 AM.Comment
