Floyd isn't from a 3rd world country nor is he seen as a savior. Americans don't tend to rally around an athlete like this unless its the olympics.

Even Ali had many fans and many detractors in his heyday, although its different now. Tons of poeple love Derek Jeter, while many opposing fans thought he was overrated by the media. Jordan, babe Ruth, Magic all had detractors.
