Comments Thread For: Team Khabib Target a Rematch With Jessie Vargas

Vladimir Hryunov, manager of Khabib Allakhverdiev (19-1, 9KOs), tells BoxingScene.com that his boxer wants a rematch, as soon as possible, with Jessie Vargas (24-0, 9KOs). This past Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Vargas outpointed Khabib to win the IBO and WBA 'regular' junior welterweight titles. The scores were 115-113, 115-113, 117-111.

Khabib-Vargas was part of the HBO Pay-Per-View undercard to the Manny Pacquiao-Timothy Bradley rematch.

It sucks when the better fighter doesn't get the win. Allakhverdiev looked as lazy as in his previous fight except he was in with a bigger guy who collected most of the early rounds. He needs to be busier with his jab and as Roy Jones said throw the straight left more often.

WTF? I thought Vargas beat him handily.

What's up with people's scoring these days? A guy can be eating jabs for a whole round, but then he throws one decent combination and people give him the round.

Khabib spent most of each round plodding forward and not throwing punches, as he ate jab after jab after jab. Occasionally he'd would throw a decent combination, but then return to eating jabs for extended periods of time, showing no urgency to win the fight. Vargas would also return fire immediately whenever he was under attack, whereas Khabib would just absorb punishment and return nothing. It wasn't until the last couple of rounds that Khabib started doing what he should have been doing the entire fight.

Vargas chose an interesting route in backing up most of the night adn coming forward with combinations. Hats off to both of them for bringing a good fight that night. I, too, had Khabib ahead by a point or two. With his face a bloody mess, he fought with more intensity, and hurt Vargas many times down the stretch. I would welcome a rematch. Aside: how the hell did Vargas get down to 140? He looked HUGE

Khabib should blame his lazy ass for not throwing enough punches and sitting that left all night waiting for the big punch.

So Khabib was lazy, shy to throw and got outworked by Vargas right?

I deleted it from my phone, but from memory I think I had it 116-112. Or possibly 117-112 because I think I gave one draw round.
