Comments Thread For: Brandon Rios, Garcia: Algieri Can Shock Provodnikov

Former champion Brandon Rios, and his trainer Robert Garcia, tell BoxingScene.com that undefeated Chris Algieri is more than capable of outboxing WBO 140-pound titleholder Ruslan Provodnikov (23-2, 16KOs) on June 14th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Algieri's challenge of Provodnikov will be televised in a main event position on HBO.

Rios should be screaming for a shot at Bradley! It's the only way for him to get back in the mix.

Could happen, don't know if Arum would send Rios back in for another loss though

I was saying this before, Algieri is a pretty good boxer from what I seen, he is long and rangy, and he will always pop his jab while circling, this fight will go the distance and be controversial in Ruslans favor but people will say he was robbed.

Algieri can box he is like a nuisance he keeps popping one twos at guys, think Malignaggi but taller with a better stance and better punch mechanics.

Ruslan would have had an easier time with Rios, Ruslan would have knocked Rios out for the first time, and I'm a Rios fan, but Ruslan only has trouble with boxers who move a lot, but if you come at him he is like a short compact pitbull and he hits twice as hard as Rios everyone who ever sparred him or fought him will tell you this guy hits so hard he makes your brain wobble for hours.

He might.... the only question is can he handle Provo.

I don't know enough to form an opinion.

So obviously you think Algieri has enough there to keep Provodnikov off of him enough to keep moving. Hmm... I really haven't looked at this fight much. Sounds like it'll be interesting.

Anyone who can keep distance and land sharp punches right on the nose will make a pitbull move back a bit. Ruslan is a pitbull, and Alvarado tried to brawl with him and paid the prize if you box and move and use your distance you have a shot, only thing is can Algieri have accuracy to land and the stamina to do this all 12? Ruslan will keep coming forward if he can slip those shots.
