When did Boxing Fans Become Money Managers and Network Execs??

This fighter makes more money than this fighter.
This fighter's ppv sales don't even compare with this fighters'
This fighter should sign with this network because they are paying him more.
This fighter is not worth fighting because he won't make enough money.

    And on and on...

When did this start? I know it's always been behind the scenes, but it's now somehow leaked into the boxing public.

When the sport evolved. Fl0mos and *******s didn't create the situation. It is what it is. Unfortunately this is what the sport has evolved in to.

Why does it bother you that some diehard boxing fans discuss these topics in addition to fights and fighters.

There is a reason in college students study microeconomics and macroeconomics.

Because those things usually get in the way of the fights being made, which would make the discussions about real fights and not fantasy fights.

I like knowing about ratings and ****. Unfortunately its a huge driving force in certain fights for this sport.

I think a lot of it has to do with reality TV culture how its now considered normal and OK to be a male "gossip girl".

I was around MMA from the very early days with friends fighting on native reservations on unrecorded cards and all that. I watched how overnight that sport transformed when the reality TV show "ultimate fighter" came out. Suddenly nobody was talking about fights, it was bisexual teenage ******* guys in pimpin' turtle necks talking about "Brad's ****y attitude makes me hate him" and "Jose totally disrespected Taylor" and fighting over who made the highest salary, who signed the most autographs, who has the best jockstrap brand endorsement. So much so that I haven't watched/followed MMA in years.

The Floyd/Pacquaio thing in boxing is extremely similar, especially with stuff like "24/7" and social media. It would not surprise me one bit if many of the posters on here have **********d to these fighters' photos or push their cart around in the grocery store talking to themselves in strange voices, fantasizing that they're out running errands with Manny and Floyd.

Eventually you get to the point where you are so in love with a fighter that you no longer even want to see them fight or risk injury. You start saying stuff like "Manny/Floyd is a businessman, the way he carries himself speaks volumes beyond what any boxing match could".

When Floyd used the "who is he and how many fans he got"excuse for not fighting Margarito. Y'all can say what you want but that's when it started. That made everybody start looking at numbers

They call it "prize fighting" for a reason. I personally find the business side of boxing fascinating and in a way it helps rank the pecking order among the boxers. It made Golden Boy and Floyd put on better undercards to sell his ppvs. It determines purses for the fighters. It forces networks to make the best fights, etc.

Imo, the only thing more annoying than boxing fans discussing ppv and business matters in boxing is those who bidch about boxing fans discussing ppv numbers and finances.
