This thread is crazy.... Margs couldn't walk down Daniel santos, yet he is going to walk down canelo...


Margs is getting very overrated, the dude never walked down a good opponent but cotto.. He didn't walk down Williams, santos twice, Shane, manny, clottey... Margs feasted on guys that weren't top level and prospects.. Yes margs was a monster at welter, but he doesn't bully really top level guys very often, with cotto being the only one... And margs doesn't possess the same physical advantages he had at welter if he was at 154..
Margs would walk into Canelo's bombs and most likely get stopped on cuts or ref stoppage..

I think the overrating of Margarito comes from him Floyd not fighting him. Fact is Margarito was big, well conditioned, strong, great chin and also a strong will to win but everything else about him was pretty average or sub par. At the top level if he couldnt physically break you he has no way of winning, cause basically everyone is a faster, better boxer than him

Margaritos connect percentage would be in the lower 10s, Canelos in the high 50s.

Margaritos chin and Canelos stamina probably see him to the final bell.

Canelo would dismantle the Margarito who fought Santos, with the same gameplan he used against Angulo.

Speaking of which, that gameplan was pretty similar to what Cotto did in their rematch. Margarito couldnt do **** about it.

Margarito coming off a years layoff and brutal domination by Mosley would not be competitive.

Margarito is a basically a better version of Angulo, he might have less power but he would throwing punches non-stop and chasing Canelo all around the ring. The pace would be too much for young Saul.

Margs is a monster welter but the facts are he is not that good at 154, he only crushed one top guy and never did it again before or after, is 1-4 at 154, and much like hatton was only effective at 140 but struggled at 147, that's exactly like margs being great at 147 but struggles to beat anyone at 154...

Margs couldn't walk done the ordinary danial santos, and he had 2 chances of it. I see no plausible facts to back up the claim that margs would run thru guys, let alone the top 154 guy... It is proven over his career that he struggles with any top boxer he faces and his record vs them is pretty horrible..

Canelo, Lara, angulo, Kirkland would all beat that dude up at 154
