I don't think one pound will make a difference as far as the outcome of the fight goes but it does make a difference as far as recognizing one of them as the champ. I don't really care much either cause I think canelo will move up soon anyway but if he comes in at anything above 154 he can't be considered the champ at 154. I still have floyd as the champ at 154 right now but as soon as he fights maidana at 147 I think he should be stripped of that title.
Weight divisions are a joke because most of the fighters don't really belong there. They cut weight drastically, and then rehydrate overnight. So fight night they mostly weigh anywhere between 10+ to 20 lbs more than what then the day before weigh-in.

Most of these fighters aren't like Floyd, Pacquaio, and Bradley, that only throw on a few pounds after the weigh-in. And by few, I mean like 3 lbs.

Who cares about the WBA 'Reguar' belt? Floyd is a welterweight, therefore this is a fight between the two best Jr. Middleweights in the world. The winner is the king at 154.
That's what boxing fans want to see, #1 vs #2.

I'm referring to most fighters, because the majority of them don't belong in the weight classes they are in. Not just Chavez. Chavez Jr is just a little bit more infamous.

The WBA will put some pressure on and Floyd will vacate the WBA "Super" 154lbs strap since he'll have the WBA "Super" 147lbs strap if he beats Maidana, which most likely will happen. The WBA won't let this be a non-title and I'm sure Floyd has no problem vacating the belt, the Green belt is the one you want to be considered the lineal champion usually.

Also I don't understand why Golden Boy doesn't put Austin Trout or Jermall Charlo as Erislandy Lara's replacement against Ishe Smith. I'm suspecting that Austin Trout will get the nod for that fight on Fox Sports 1.

                  Non-title bout? At 154 plus/minus 1 pound?
... This can be translated with "plus 20 pounds" for a certain fighter...

The WBA will do no such thing because it's Floyd Mayweather. Maybe next year they may if he doesn't fight at 154 again. Lara vs. Canelo will indeed be a non-title fight. Canelo ended up teaching them a valuable lesson.

Trout, who's coming off back to back losses, isn't just going to jump into the ring to fight a guy in a few weeks. You think Trout has been training hard right now with no fight on the horizon?
