Should fans hold fighters accountable for what their promoters do?

This isn't specific to any one in particular, just in general.

If fights aren't made or are postponed as long as possible due to promoters...are the boxers blameless? Is the situation out of their hands to fix? Or can the boxers do something about it?

Boxers are to blame,,, they shouldnt sign a deal where they get no control on who they fight,,
If you sign a deal with a promoter and dont get the fights fans want to see, then realistically its your fault for signing with a bad promoter, or not having the legal language in the contract to control your opponent selection...

Even if a fighter has no promoter and is his own boss, that doesnt mean we will get the fights we wanna see...

The best thing for boxing to do, is outlaw longtime promotional contracts,,, if everyone was a free agent all the time, then we would have bidding wars on fights, and much more fights could be made..
Having fighters tied to promoters for the longterm, only benefits the promoter and gives no incentive to make big fights,,,

Let GBP and TR get into a bidding war for rigo-mares, floyd-manny, manny-thurman, etc.....

Nope. Boxers got mouths to feed and don't get guaranteed money like other pro athletes do. All they can do is show up and fight whoever their promoters put in front of them.

Unless they are shot callers like Floyd, Pac, Cotto, Canelo and Marquez.

You would have to rewrite boxing history if you wanted this post to be #thetruth

Boxing is the closest thing to a human slave trade we have today.

i think the best we can hope for is ex-boxers like Mike Tyson to get into the industry.

Absolutely, people forget and boxer's aswell that the promoters work for them not the other way around.

That is an excellent idea and something I've never thought about before.

If boxers got to be free agents at the end of every year for example you would see a lot of competition for their services.

Look at Brandon Rios though. He wanted the Provodnikov fight and insisted he could make 140 but his promoter and his manager said no.

In his case he wasn't the boss, he ended up doing what he was told.

Yeah, the long term contracts with promoters are very unfair to fighters,, yes they get a chance to be on TV and will have a hype machine behind them, but in reality they will miss big paydays vs some rivals that arent signed to their promoter...
This would force promoters to really pay top dollar to put on good shows

Would you outlaw long term contracts with the networks too, Sugar Adam Ali?
