Calzaghe's preparation 'flawless'
Joe Calzaghe says the build-up to his 4 March super middleweight unification bout with Jeff Lacy has been ideal.
The WBO champion only started sparring last month after recovering from a broken hand, but he says he "couldn't be happier" with his preparation.
"Obviously my preparation was slowed by my broken hand, but I'm now exactly where I want to be," said the Welshman.
"I kept my schedule a bit lighter in the past couple of days, but next week I will push myself very hard."
The 33-year-old from Newbridge faces IBF champion Lacy at the MEN Arena, Manchester.
"When you get to my stage in a career you know how best to prepare for a fight," said Calzaghe in his column for the South Wales Argus.
"I have sparred with a variety of guys, mostly British, who have various styles and strengths.
"I am about to unify two titles and it should be a fantastic night for me."
Calzaghe had a word of sympathy for compatriot Enzo Maccarinelli, whose shot at Johnny Nelson's WBO cruiserweight title on the Manchester undercard was cancelled when Nelson picked up a knee injury.
"It would have been a terrific contest and I was looking forward to seeing two Welsh world champions crowned on the same night," said Calzaghe.
"I have had such a thing happen to me many times - either I have got injured or my opponent has - and while it is very frustrating, that's boxing."
