As previously reported, James DeGale has signed a promotional deal with Matchroom Sport and will face Brandon Gonzales in a final eliminator for the IBF World Super Middleweight title on May 31 at Wembley Stadium connected by EE live on Sky Sports Box Office in association with Betway.

The 2008 Olympic Gold medal hero will take on the unbeaten American for the right to face the winner of Carl Froch and George Groves, as the Brit rivals do battle on the same night in a rematch for Froch’s WBA and IBF belts.

Great news for Degale. Now he needs to prove he's a world class fighter, and possibly even an elite p4p fighter. One fight at a time, Gonzales might turn out to be Degale's toughest fight yet if he's not focused on the task at hand. Forget about Froch and Groves for the time-being, it's all about beating Gonzales.

Eddie is probably licking his lips for Groves-DeGale II at some point. Anyone who can remember how big the build up was between them two fighting for domestic belts can understand why Eddie signed DeGale.

I personally think DeGale is the least popular of the name fighters in the UK. He's known and has an Olympic Gold but it's like.. meh.
