i'm hoping for a canelo knockout to shut many of you up. things were so peaceful after matthysse got blinded by king swift.

it's going to be a close fight. i expect a close decision to go to alvarez, and i expect a ton of complaining from butthurt fanboys.

Interesting...the poll is currently at 70-46 in favor of Lara. There can only be one of three explanations: 1. There are a whole lot of Canelo haters on Boxingscene; 2. Lara is a lot more popular than people think; 3. There are a lot more than five Cuban fans around here. Or, could it really be that this many people think Landy is better?

I'm not one of Lara's fans... In fact I find him boring (as I find Rigo)...
But I do respect the Cuban school of boxing and it's good products...
That is why I find that Lara is very hard to beat -- especially by Canelo...

Probably a combination of the 3.

A combination of all three I would guess. Your first explanations also plays a big part.

I've never been a big fan of Lara. He's just too inactive for my taste. Rigo, on the other hand, I find pleasing to watch because of his very high level of talent and skill.

You bring up a good point. Lara is hard to beat...but that doesn't necessarily make him a winner. I think Landy is a tough out for anyone, but he'll never be a star...and not just for lack of a fan-base.

I hardly watched Lara's last fight live -- I was curious if Trout would land something eventually...
But as for Rigo's last fight: I fell asleep after 4 rounds, because nothing more was supposed to happen... And I like watching Rigo... (I have to admit that the live fights are aired at about 6-7 in the morning in my country...)

That Trout fight was tough to watch. The Agbeko fight certainly wasn't very scintillating either, although I don't completely blame Rigo. Both Lara and Guillermo need to be pushed. I just like the way Rigo looks a whole lot better when pressed. No surprise. Guille's simply the better boxer.

Canelo, to me he is the more well rounded boxer and he is best when on the offensive which Lara is essentially going to cede to him. Not that it will be easy for Canelo because it will take solid work to chase Lara down get get him in position for Canelo to be effective but once Canelo gets Lara in position I think he will feast on him. Then once that happen Canelo will get him in position easier and easier until Lara folds.

Now Lara does have a shot if he fight perfect (or damn near it) but he can not let Canelo taste success.

I don't blame any of them -- I never blame a fair play fighter, no matter how "minimalist" his boxing style might be...

(But nobody can change Rigo's manner of boxing -- he's too old and stubborn...)
