Martinez has advantages in power, speed, stamina, reflexes, mobility, defense, height, reach, and arguably skills.
Your another one..Your talking about a 40 yr. old man & trust me I like Martinez but he's no Bernard Hopkins..
Cotto was given bad advise in the Trout fight IMO but put all your points up already and I'll double it..

Cotto is one of my favorites but i dont see any scenario, other than serious injury, where he wins. Yes in boxing one punch is all it takes, which is why i dont count out Maidana, but Cotto does not have that punch at JMW let alone MW. This is the MW champion of the world not Delvin Rodriquez

What was the bad advice he was given? And what's to suggest Cotto can do what much bigger fighters couldn't do? And what's to stop Martinez from doing what Trout did? About the points, I've actually never bet on this forum and have no idea how to.

He's got a chance simply because he's Cotto and he always comes to fight. It's just hard to envision him winning when Sergio holds every physical advantage . Dude looked huge compared to Cotto in their recent training footage. Longer reach and bigger frame means Cotto is really going to feel Maravilla's punches.

You can make an argument that Cotto is a better boxer but his handspeed and movement aren't superior to Sergio's. He's also struggled against southpaws, most recently Trout, and hasn't looked great at 154. I'm not buying he'll look better at middleweight. I'm not buying Roach will make him a superior fighter either specially in such a short amount of time. I mean he looked great against Rodriguez, but Sergio is a different animal.

Fan of both fighters for similar reasons. Cotto has fought everyone, Maravilla has tried to fight everyone in his prime. When this fight was made i thought Cotto but more than he could chew. Now, with Maravilla talking retirement after the first week of training, and not being able to train for a whole year due to injuries. Cotto def. has a chance, big chance. That defence with hands down and reflexes don't work for an aging fighter. See: Roy Jones Jr

Cotto may have chosen to fight martinez at the perfect time, age and injuries may have caught up with martinez.

But in saying that if Martinez is fit and healthy then I see him stopping Cotto.

Cotto isnt big/good enough to fight the top guys at MW imo.

I'd say yes, Cotto can pull it off. He's an exceptional fighter with high caliber experience and shouldn't ever be doubted. Can he knock Martinez out? Doubt it.. maybe wobble him I just can't picture Cotto actually landing with enough power to KO Martinez for a single knockdown and outboxing Martinez just seems brutal to do given the weight difference.

Will the 159 CW actually make a difference? Is Martinez too old? Will his bones hold up? Opinions?
It's not impossible. If Matthew Macklin could confuse Sergio by refusing to take the lead then Cotto could do it. I just don't see Cotto being able to avoid heavy counters for a healthy Sergio though, and I honestly don't think he's strong enough to take shots at 160. The Floyd fight aside, he's never really looked strong even at 154.

Look I'm not going to waste time looking up all your post and how ****** you sound when your talking a 3 time World Champion but when you use the word {Embarrassment} loosely in front of 15 thousand fans in MSG on FREAKING RICAN WEEKEND shows the lack of respect for game and the
3 time World Champion that Cotto is and I know you properly don't know this but your going have to due more than just embarrass Cotto that night and short of killing him is not accepted. It's going to be a war, where true will and determination will win that fight.. If it was Martinez 3 years ago I would say Cotto doesn't have a chance but not now..Cotto will win rounds and I'll put all my points up that he wont get knocked out..
