Comments Thread For: Maccarinelli: If No Bad Eye, I Would've Beat Braehmer

ENZO MACCARINELLI will make a decision over his future in the coming days after he suffered a horrific eye injury in his latest world title bid.

The Welsh light-heavyweight was pulled out by corner man Gary Lockett before the sixth round against WBA champion Juergen Braehmer in Rostock, Germany.

Maccarinelli, 33, suffered the gruesome injury in a crazy first round that also saw Braehmer cut above his right eye.

But the experienced German controlled the remaining rounds and, after the doctor allowed the fight continue following two inspections, Lockett threw in Maccarinelli's towel. [Click Here To Read More]

Enzo like ive mentioned is a warrior, but he needs to hang'em up. He should have a while back, but really its down hill from here especially given today's belt holders. He can still come back win the EBU title, but i don't think it would be worth it.

Really? I thought he was beating Braemer and even looked capable of stopping him. Rematch!

I also thought Enzo put on a good performance, it's just that Braehmer was smothering a lot of his work by clinching excessively. Braehmer landed some very good shots but Enzo caught him with some good shots too. It wasn't a one-sided fight by any means.

No way should Enzo hang them up, based on that performance and especially after losing due to an eye injury (rather than being overmatched) he could definitely go on to challenge for another world title within just a few fights.

How did he get that bad eye? Born with it or what?

Good punch from Braehmer, very early on in the fight. But Enzo started doing better as the fight went on, even with one eye shut he was landing some good shots. And Braehmer rubbed his head into that eye a few times which made the injury worse, the ref warned him but didn't take any points.

A rematch would be good to see...horrific to see his eye like that, it looked like a bad special effect from an 80's horror film! Enzo had some good success and it had the makings of a decent fight. Real shame for Enzo - who is a likeable fighter. I don't think he should hang em up just yet, give it one more go I say based on his performance.

Difficult to see how the fight would have gone with such a bad injury so early, it would be good to see good guy Enzo get a rematch.

I thought Enzo looked good, much better than I've seen him for a while anyway. Braehmer should give him a rematch, it's not like there's anyone else for him to fight.
