Comments Thread For: Photos: Inoue's History Making WBC Title Win in Tokyo

Ota-City General Gymnasium, Tokyo, Japan - 20-year-old Naoya Inoue (6-0, 5KOs) made history in Japan, in only his sixth fight, he knocked out two-time world champion, and one of the best in the lower weight divisions, Adrian Hernandez (29-3-1, 18KOs), in six rounds to capture the WBC junior flyweight title. Hernandez had won his last seven after an upset knockout loss (which he later avenged by knockout) to Kompayak Porpramook. Inoue was in control of the action during the contest and dropped Hernandez in the sixth with a big shot. Hernandez made it up and the referee felt he was too hurt to properly defend himself and waved it off.

Great performance from Inoue, that was pretty historic to do that in only his 6th fight.

Great young fighter, big win. But what's the "historic" part about? Saensak Muangsurin won the WBC junior welterweight title in the 1970s in his third fight back in the days when there was only two belts per division. So is the "historic" part that he is the fastest a Japanese fighter to win an alphabet belt?

He actually changed it for this fight it was Big**** but it fizzled out quickly after Inoue tapped that body from the onset.
