Comments Thread For: Artur Beterbiev-Jeff Lacy in Play For Stevenson-Fonfara

There were very high expectations surrounding the recent move of former amateur standout Artur Beterbiev to the pros. They are still in place after four fights, which featured Beterbiev against some quality and durable journeymen, including Christian Cruz and Rayco Saunders. However, on May 24 Beterbiev (4-0, 4 KOs), a former two-time Olympian (Beijing 2008 and London 2012) for Russia, will have a different task to deal with. Beterbiev, 29, faces ex-IBF super middleweight champion Jeff Lacy (26-4, 18 KOs) over ten rounds in a quantum leap up in class for the Hasavyurt native.

Beterbiev won world gold and silver in the ams, so he's got pedigree. Poor Lacy.

You can catch Beterbiev's fights on Youtube in good quality. He looks like he has immense natural talent but still a lot of amateur traits. He could have finished Saunders at least 100 times but seemed content to just hurt him then survey the damage. Still, he KO's Lacy IMO.

I believe Lacy is still a good opponent at this stage of Beterbievs career. Good name on your early resume.

Beterbiev will kill Lacy. Horrible match. Artur would've KO'd Lacy years ago in his better days.

Damn right - Lacy may be shot and semi-retired, but for a 4 fight pro-novice is still a real big fight, and the name recognition alone will raise Arturs profile considerably.

We dont know that, Beterbiew is still untested and not every good amateur will be a great pro. In his better days Lacy had an iron chin so i doubt he would get stopped by an novice.
