Comments Thread For: Frampton-Cazares Early Fight Result From Belfast

Jamie Conlan (11-0, 7 KOs), nicknamed The Mexican, showed some Latino skills against Belgian import Benjamin Smoes (9-3-1, 1 KO), repeatedly hurting him throughout the first five rounds of virtually one-sided action. Conlan dominated the fight, as Smoes had little chance opposing something serious to him.

Late into the sixth, Smoes went down on a picturesque "right hand - left hook" combo. He was then put down again in the seventh - this time to one knee and for a full count. Conlan acquired a vacant WBO European super flyweight belt in this fight.

I just watched the short fight and while is true that Frampton dropped Cazares, for one strange reason Hugo was looking to the corner to assure them he was OK while kneeling in one leg and all the sudden when the count came to ten he was surprised and stood up too late. It was very weird really and if I was a Frampton's fan I would have preferred to see more action than a very strange end of a very short fight. IDK if the Irish boxer really has any chance against Leo Santa Cruz (i know Cazares didn't have any)

He didn't look to his corner, he looked and winked at Frampton to acknowledge a good shot having seen the ref's handcount beforehand. Must've been a pride thing. Still, very dodgy looking, takes a bit of the shine off Frampton's victory; and yes, I would've liked to have seen the fight go on, Frampton looked to be rushing in and might've been caught with some good counters. The result has left me feeling a little uneasy about Frampton's chances with Santa Cruz. Still, I'll be supporting him all the way; if he can connect like that against Leo, it's game over
