I always find it funny when boxers don't follow the sport. There was an article saying this not long ago. Maidana doesn't follow the sport at all.
Maidana Doesn't Know Who Collazo Is.

Even then, WARdana was fully focused on training and thinking about Mayweather.

maidana didn't even know who robert garcia was until he started training with him, he doesn't follow the sport that much i guessComment

maidana follows the sport back home in argentina. he has his own promotional company and attends fights there. he probably doesn't care much about foreign fighters.Comment

Yeah, a bunch of them don't follow other fighters. Trainers included. If you ask Pacquaio who is Collazo, I bet he has no idea too. I bet he didn't even know who Brandon Rios was until he was chosen as his opponent.

What i have noticed is that a lot of the people who box dont actually follow it and a lot of the hardcores have never stepped foot inside a gym.
Even in media the writers who know their stuff have never laced'em up as for boxers atleast in the gyms ive been in the people have one or two favorites and thats about it.Comment

Rios didn't either, but it's not surprising; Maidana was probably 14 when Garcia was champ and Rios even younger. He's from before their time.Comment

I think a lot of people here on this website did not know who Collazo was until he beat Ortiz and signed to fight Khan. I had a slight memory of the name associated with Hatton. So I am not surprised he was not on Maidana's radar.Comment

Some are like Maidana, some are like Tyson, knows everything about all the old champions, watches every fight, reads all their biographys... You can love to fight without being interested in following the sport and i guess you can love the sport without wanting to fight yourself.Comment
