This did occur to me also..Shumenov, I'm afraid, just ain't very good - if he beats Hopkins it'll only be cos Hopkins suddenly got real old. Hopkins has what? A year or two at best, Stevenson maybe 4 or 5...
Still as much as it p#sses me off, SHO played this beautifully, firstly identifying that the division was hotting up, then getting the potential unifier by signing up Shumenov, then finally orchastrating the Stevenson defection (in part by promising the shot at the other two belts). In the space of just 6 months they managed to go from just having BHop to basically having the big fights in the division sewn up...(such as they are of course - the division's pretty barren outside of the strap-holders)
Thing is Kovalev may have to wait on the sidelines for a while, but time is on his side...the call from SHO will continue to be 'who has he fought' and that whoever they've got is the unified champ , but fans of the sport will know the real deal and hopefully, some day, we get a real unified champ.
