  • Comments Thread For: Provodnikov's Manager: Algieri Bout in NY Possible

Negotiations for Ruslan Provodnikov's next fight has been ongoing for two rounds, according to the WBO champion's manager Vadim Kornilov. Provodnikov (23-2, 16KOs) is scheduled to make the first defense of his title on June 14th. Several names have been mentioned over the last few weeks, including Brandon Rios, Antonio DeMarco and Hank Lundy, but Kornilov says undefeated Chris Algieri (19-0, 8KOs) is potentially going to be the HBO televised opponent.

I cant say this is the best fight but I'd watch it. Algieri has an interesting background.

Rios is obviously the best choice and I feel like both Rios and Ruslan want the fight but to be honest it's career suicide for Rios.

Off the bat, in no way should Allegri should be fighting Provo on HBO.
You could make the Bradley/Provo compraison from ESPN to HBO, but Alegri has never impressed like Provo has and didn't look that good in his last fight.

NY should be the only place this fight should be so his fans can fill the venue to watch thier guy get beat to a pulp

I'm with HBO on this one. They wanted the Dulorme/Mayfield winner and that's way better than Alegri.

It's better now that Dulorme won. Don't know if he use the same tactics as I think he just did that to combat Mayfields tactics, but he's better than Alegri, been on HBO and would be a better overall challenge.

Might as well hold the fight in his backyard to milk the revenue as much as they can.

Good for Provo for being a traveling champ, but this is a crap fight when looking at his available options

Rios wants the Provodnikov fight and says he can make 140. Why are we getting Algieri instead?

If he says he can, do it and do what K2 did. Put a big ass penalty if he misses it.

Rios should have no problem with it as long as he doesn't miss weight

I will probably be in the minority, but I think this fight will be competitive while it lasts.
Algieri is fairly average, but he has an awkward, tricky style and he will enjoy a big height and reach advantage over Ruslan. He will make him work.
However, Algieri is feather-fisted and not technically good enough to prevent Ruslan from getting inside.

Ruslan will stop him in 6-8 rounds.

If he actually utitilzes those advantages, it could be tricky and intersting.

There's also the unanswered question on if he can handle the unrelenting pressure.

If I knew he'd try to do that, I'd be mildly interested. His last fight, although against a different style of fighter, leaves me uninterested in Alegri
