3 out of the 4 knockdowns were caused by Lewis holding down Grants head, the first one being an illegal rabbit punch that really ****ed Grant up for the rest of the fight. Watching it seriously angered me how unfair it was. Just seemed like a piss poor ref job to me. Commentators seemed way too nonchalant about it.
Was Lewis vs Grant controversial at the time?

maybe the ref was bad,, but grant was getting blown out regardless,, Lewis was not one to mess with in a big hyped fight,,,,
Grant not doing anything after this fight kinda shows that it was a legit lewis destruction- bad ref or not -
The truth. Just re-watched it - Grant initiated a lot of the holds, so he wasn't exactly playing by the 'rules', either.
Forgot how beautiful the third KD was.

Not really. Why would it have been? This stuff happens in fights. Lewis was handing Grants arse to him and he was supposed to be a top 5 heavyweight. The american hope.
I remember the hype about Grant dissappeared after the beating he took and no one really mentioned anything about the holding and hitting.Comment

Before the first knockdown, I think Grant only initiated twice, and he wasn't hitting and holding. Then after the knockdown he held because he was hurt as fuck because of the illegal and potentially fatal rabbit punch.
I don't understand quite understand how anyone can justify it. "Grant was going to lose anyway" does not make it right in my book.Comment

I watched it live..no one cares about Lewis holding etc because Grant was
overwhelmed and was gonna lose anyway. It's like when foreman was up at
9 with Ali,no one cares because he was gonna get knocked out anyway.
Grant was overanxious in that fight and was gonna lose no matter what.
The ref actually did a good job because he stayed out of the way and
allowed the great knockdowns and knockout.Comment
